A lot of people are improving their foreign languages skills, especially English, by watching movies. It's a fun and efficient way to do it and it really helps to polish a foreign language. The developers from KolaSoft took this one step further and made a full application for this way of learning. FollowMovie allows users to both create their own lessons and study them in a special, karaoke-looking interface. The learning material can be imported from a variety of popular formats: videos (mpg, mkv, asf, rm), audio (p3, wma, ogg, mp2, ra), and subtitles (srt, .ssa, idx/sub).
Four wizards are also available for importing the data. The DVD wizard extracts the audio track and subtitles from standard DVD movies. The IDX/SUB wizard adds idx/sub type subtitles to any audio file. The Text Single Wizard creates material with text type of subtitle. For batch creation, the Text group Wizard makes a group of learning material at once. FollowMovie has also good options for editing and synchronizing the subtitles.
When the lessons are prepared, the user can start listening to the audio track and reading the subtitles. These are displayed in two tabs: one with the text for the foreign language and the other with the translated text in the user's native language.
The program offers different options to play the audio track. It can play the lines normally or repeat each one a selected number of times. Also it can insert a break between the lines, or play them continuously. more
